Elizabeth Mersereau is a Sous Chef at Hebron Academy with a passion for sustainable, delicious food. She has spent 40 years specializing in culinary and pastry arts, helping implement and oversee Brown University’s composting program, and creating fresh-baked bread using leftover hot cereal at Bates College.

"Driven by my passion for expanding my culinary knowledge, I began working in different restaurants and hotels in New England, which shaped my well rounded approach to turning any available ingredients into wholesome delicious meals."

Today, she focuses on teaching youth cooking classes, helping the younger population be able to feed themselves with what the garden offers. She loves teaching valuable skills such as sanitation, knife techniques, garden to plate cooking, composting, and how to work together as a team in the kitchen.

Being able to feed yourself, family, and friends is an empowering tool that can be used in many different ways throughout your life.

Outside of work, Elizabeth enjoys skiing, kayaking, hiking and is involved in the Youth Cooking Club at Alan Day Community Garden. She is currently looking to bring in more young adults to the class and welcomes the opportunity to connect with others that have similar interests.
